Earth hour is a symbolic representation of the fact that we care for ‘Our Planet’!
Green house emissions have multiplied with the increasing stress on natural resources. Be it be the increasing population and urbanisation or just human mis-management and greed, there is growing imbalance in nature, amply reflected as ‘Climate change’ globally. It needs to be corrected urgently before it brings our civilization to its knees…
Earth hour is one such step…to create an awareness among each one of us that ‘something’ needs to be done – Development and Nature’s conservation needs to go hand in hand. Not only we would live better as a result, but our future generations too will have a fair chance of good life!
I will switch off our non-essential lights on 19th March 2016 for an hour starting 8:30 pm. I will also try create awareness among my family, friends and peer-group regarding the same.
By participating in the Earth Hour, I become a part of ‘Global Solution for Sustainable Living’…Thanks
I am keen to bring Green Mantras of ‘Re-pair, Re-cycle and Re-sell’ in the Economic mainstream! In this post, I wish to share some of my ideas with you.
But before that, here is a brief background of why such an initiative is required.
All right-thinking people would agree that wasting is bad. This is especially true when the world is reeling under the twin crises of ‘Shortages’ and ‘Waste Mismanagement’.
However, ways of giving a ‘longer life or a respectable after-life’ to products, are not as readily available, specifically to the residents of UAE. Either they are difficult to locate or pin-point or are economically unattractive.
I am sharing a gist of some such ideas, with a view to network with those who have similar inclination and are willing to work with me in this direction.
- Providing an online communication platform for ‘owners of to-be-repaired goods’ (residential or commercial) on one hand and ‘Repair service providers’ on the other
- Similar model to promote recycling of goods (including recycling and composting)
- Online Flea market (facilitating existing models of business to complete greater number of transactions)
Looking forward to hearing from you,

I am an individual, devoted to the cause of sustainability and environmental conservation. In the UAE context, I am exploring areas where we can be more sustainable in everyday lives.
One such area is repair of household articles!
Most of the residents will agree that repairing facilities here are either not readily available or are not a value-proposition!
Out of your experience and memory, please do share…
which things you discarded, due to lack of easy-to-avail, cost-effective repairing services…?
It will be really helpful to me in devising a plan of action towards bridging this gap!
Thanks in advance!

‘Triple Bottom Line’ for measuring corporate growth
Have you heard of the ‘Triple Bottom Line (TBL)’ of an enterprise? Earlier, it was only ‘Profit’ (P)…now it is ‘People’ (P) and ‘Planet’ (P) as well, i.e. 3 Ps…that means more and more corporations are looking to measure their performance in not only financial aspect, but also social and environment…
BTW, the credit of coining this slogan in the year 1994 goes to John Elkington, the founder of a British consultancy called SustainAbility…
More on this in the article in ‘The Economist’ with link above…
