World Environment Day – June 5

World Environment Day –

June 5 is the date every year…! The official website is http://www.unep.org/wed/

“World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment.”[1]

This year’s theme is “SIDs (Small Island Developing States) in the broader context of climate change…”

As the climate change is becoming more evident by the day, among the more vulnerable are the small island countries.

How?

Global Warming, the cause of climate change, in general, is leading to increase in temperatures, causing ice-caps to melt…this, in turn, increases sea-levels and affect sea winds, causing widespread changes in climatic patterns…countries surround by sea understandably, are most likely to be affected by the above mentioned phenomena…!

At the end, it is not about one group of countries… it is about ONE AND THE ONLY PLANET WE HAVE…EARTH!

This day, can we mold our lifestyle to a more sustainable one?

Happy World Environment Day!
